Medica 2008: Beurer launches new generation of nebulizers

Ulm/Munich, 19 November 2008 – Many people of all ages from babies to senior citizens suffer from chronic or acute respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma or bronchitis. A wide range of inhalation treatments are available, easing the symptoms or even playing an essential role in patients' survival. At this year's Medica, the world's biggest medical exhibition in Düsseldorf, Beurer will present the IH 20, IH 25 and IH 50, its new generation of advanced nebulizers for effective treatment of respiratory diseases. The Ulm-based company will present these and other highlights in Hall 12, Stand F65.

Inhalation – Effective treatment brings rapid recovery
Inhalation therapy promotes the self-cleaning ability of the respiratory tract, strengthening the natural resistance of the mucous membranes, alleviating inflammation and swelling of the bronchial muscosa, and battling the respiratory tract infections. Inhalation therapy is suitable for all types of respiratory tract diseases in general from the common cold to chronic asthma. Inhalation of specific medications can also bring short and long-term alleviation of bronchial muscle spasms.

Beurer nebulizers – with sophisticated technology
All of Beurer's new range of nebulizers are based on aerosol generation technology, in which the medication is nebulized into an ultra-fine mist able to penetrate deep into patients' bronchial tubes or pulmonary alveoli. If the active substance is respirable, it depends on the particle size. Particles smaller than 6 micrometers are necessary for the treatment of pulmonary alveoli. All new Beurer nebulizers fulfil this.

The model IH 50 features a nebulization method using a ultra modern oscillating membrane to nebulize the inhalant. The oscillating membrane is partially porous and allows very small particles of the medicine to pass through as soon as they are oscillating. The nebulization capacity is >0,3 ml/min. Requiring only a short inhalation time, the IH 50 is also suitable for treating children with respiratory diseases. Its compact design and battery operation make it ideal as a travel companion. The inhaler is supplied with a storage box, mouthpiece and masks for adults and children.

Beurer's inhaler models IH 25 and IH 20 are designed to treat the upper and lower respiratory tract in case of colds, asthma or similar disorders. Here, the liquid medication is nebulized using compressed air technology with an nebulazation capacity of > 0.21 ml/min (IH 25) and > 0.18 ml/min (IH 20). Both devices operate on mains power and feature compact, light design. They are supplied with mouthpiece, nosepiece, masks for adults and children, extra-long compressed air tube, filter and storage bag (for IH 25).

Beurer Inhaler IH 30 – Successful treatment thanks to ultrasonic technology
In contrast to these new models, Beurer's existing IH 30 inhaler operates on the basis of ultrasonic technology. The technology causes the transfer medium – in this case, water – to oscillate, dissolving particles of inhalate which are combined with air in the air channel and expelled evenly through a ventilator. This inhalate is administered to the patient via a mask or mouthpiece. As the technology uses very little power, the IH30 can be battery-operated in addition to mains operation, and is thus suitable for travelling. It is supplied with masks for adults and children. The IH 30 also features an automatic cut-off function and indicator lamp.
